Carpentry – Finishing

The last works on metals are called finishing, a range of operations meant to improve the aesthetic characteristics of the objects or to improve their functionality. It’s important for us to realize a good finishing to get the best results, and satisfy both aesthetic and practical need of our customer.

Sandblasting is a very flexible finishing. It consist in abrading the surface of a metal object through an air blast with sand, and it’s used for maintenance treatments in order to remove oxide or other residuals from any metal surface, from stainless steel to aluminum. It’s often used as a pre-treatment before painting.

Satinizing, or Glazing, it’s a very common finishing, easier to obtain compared to polishing, also because it’s less delicate and needs less maintenance. It’s useful even for covering any possible defect or sign left on surfaces from earlier works, and it’s more appreciated for aesthetic reasons. It’s made through abrasive wheels or abrasive tape, which give the materials a more or less evident finished satinized effect. This kind of work gives the material a homogenized matt effect, removing at the same time previous superficial defects or scratches.

Galvanizing consists in applying a zinc coating on any metal surface. It’s used as a protection to prevent corrosion, because zinc act as a “sacrificial element” instead of the main metal. There are various methods applied to galvanizing, usually combined with other treatments, such as pretreatments or protection treatments, contributing in defending the zinc coating. Zinc is often combined with other elements such as aluminum, bronze, brass or copper.

Chrome Plating consists into coating the metal with chrome. In carpentry sector, its realization it’s similar to Galvanizing, as it’s made submerging the objet into chrome, or applying it through different treatments. It’s often used for aesthetic reasons, but It’s also a valid protection finishing, that prevents corrosion or oxidation.

Varnishing it’s a type of conclusive finishing. We use both liquid paint and powder coating, which is a special powder that fasten with the metal surface. As for most of the finishing treatments, it’s useful to protect surfaces and it’s also for a better appearance. Powder coating is indicated for any kind of metal object with any shape and dimension, because it grants a perfect finishing effect with optimal endurance, even into mechanical parts.

Polishing and Buffing are the conclusive parts of the finishing process.

Note. This paragraph describes works that we can perform for certain metal parts and carpentry works. Some particular treatments are not performable in our premises and are completed outsourcing. This list is approximate, and can be modified in any time according to availability of all means at the time of the request.
